That time when the world of wine was undisputedly ruled by the French and New World wines were a joke….or were they ? Bottle Shock tells the story of the now legendary “Judgement of Paris” when the US took the French on at their own game….and won.

Paris-based wine expert Steven Spurrier (played by a deliciously grumpy Alan Rickman) heads to California in search of cheap wine that he can use for a blind taste test in the French capital. Stumbling upon the Napa Valley, the stuck-up Englishman is shocked to discover a wine grower (Bill Pullman) turning out top-notch chardonnay. Determined to make a name for himself, he sets about getting the booze back to Paris. Bottle Shock is a funny and heart warming movie based on the true story of what happened back in 1976. It’s a tale of triumph against adversity for sure, but it’s also a gripping and enjoyable yarn and a great excuse for us to try our own blind taste test right here in Wylam.

Included in your ticket price will be a glass of Californian and a glass of French wine (white or red you can choose). Question is - will you be able to tell the difference?!
NB: Soft or hot drink alternatives will be available for those not having wine.
