Wylam Winter Tales is thrilled to present an opportunity for singers to join Rachel and Rebecca Unthank in a Wylam workshop! The Unthanks have been bringing people to the North East for singing workshops for over 10 years. The onus is on participation and inclusivity. You do not have to be an experienced singer to attend or enjoy the morning. It’s all about the simple pleasure of joining in.
The Unthanks exist to explore ideas, journey through music, share stories, to connect and participate, as well as to perform. Music is viewed as adventure, stories as learning, audience as friends and equals. Self managed since they started in 2004, The Unthanks have journeyed though an extraordinarily range of musical forms, and lead the way in finding new ways to engage with audiences.
The Unthanks are committed and passionate about teaching, sharing and living folk-song. You can expect harmony singing, opportunities for joyful chorus singing and chances to learn songs that are close to The Unthanks’ hearts and tradition.
“There are few times when you discover a band and they stalk immediately to the heart of
everything you love and hold dear.” Maxine Peake
“They run from the very root of folk music to the very tip of the branch.” Elvis Costello
“It’s quite a rare thing now. They’ve really got everything you could want from music. And I’m very
fussy.” Robert Wyatt
“The Unthanks are capable of such beauty that sometimes I can hardly bear to listen to them.”
