After running a successful and well attended discussion panel about the health of the River Tyne at last year’s Festival, we’re glad to welcome Wylam Clean Tyne back this year to run a Saturday morning of arts activities and informative talks. Through the morning downstairs in the Institute fine arts graduate Caitlin Hardy will lead a creative workshop for Brownies aged 7-9 and Rangers aged 14-16. The workshop is designed to create artworks that will showcase younger generations interpretations of the River Tyne. This includes exploring themes and ideas about the river and may include ideas surrounding water pollution, imagining the potential future for the river, or even an artistic celebration of the river which highlights the importance of the wildlife and other natural forms etc. Materials will be provided.
Caitlin will also show her graduate exhibition which presents a creative documentation of visuals relating to water pollution and will be on hand to discuss the themes and work.
Upstairs in the Institute beginning at 10.00am there will be 4 short talks on the theme of science, fish stocks, and how to care for the River Tyne. There will be be a short interval of 20 minutes after the second talk, for a coffee, comfort break or to absorb the artwork downstairs. The full morning schedule is below.
10.00: David Werner - genetic sampling of river pollution- human or farming sewage?
10.35: Steve Hoggins - Dace catch collapses
