Continuing our popular Sunday afternoon choir series we’re delighted to welcome “Il Cappello Rosso Vocal Ensemble” to make their Wylam Winter Tales debut at this year’s festival. It’s an added bonus that many of its members will be familiar to local choral music fans, especially the ensemble directors Simon and Gail Davies-Fidler. With the concert falling on Candlemas, marking the end of the Christmas season in the church calendar, the varied programme will include Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece ‘A Ceremony Of Carols’, along with music by composers from closer to home. Join us for what will be a lovely chilled afternoon of harmony and hope amongst the beautiful surroundings and acoustics of St Oswin’s Church.

Il Cappello Rosso began a couple of years ago when Gail Davies-Fidler wanted to put together a professional ensemble to sing music for upper voices. Since then the choir has performed Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and the Pergolesi Stabat Mater in concerts around the region. Moving forward the group will keep performing those pieces (and other upper voice repertoire) but also open up other performing opportunities by adding tenors and basses to the group. Catch them live in Wylam for the first time at this year’s Winter Tales.
